Extraordinary Women of the East Bay Exhibit

Warren Preservation Society is proud to announce that the RWU Extraordinary Women of the East Bay Exhibit is coming to Warren in February 2020.  The exhibit will be shared by George Hail Library and Sprout CoWorking and will displayed throughout the month of February.  The exhibit features the stories of sixty historic women from the East Bay communities of Barrington, Bristol, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Warren. 

The exhibit is was curated by RWU Archivist Heidi Benedict and sixteen local historical societies, libraries and museums have contributed to the exhibit.  

Warren residents Mary Jolls Merchant DeWolf (1870-1947), the first woman to register to vote in Rhode Island,  and Lizzie Murphy (1894-1964), the first woman to play professional baseball, are both part of the exhibit. 

The Opening Reception is Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Sprout CoWorking from 6-8 PM.  George Hail Library is open until 8:00 pm so visitors can can enjoy both exhibit spaces that evening. The exhibit is currently at the Middletown Public Library, 700 West Main Road, Middletown, RI from January 6-31 and will travel to Jamestown for March 2020.  WPS was proud to have contributed to this exhibit by nominating Mary Jolls Merchant DeWolf and we are happy to be able to help bring the exhibit to Warren for the community to enjoy.
